Fry two strips of bacon until crisp. Place on a paper towel. Dice a small onion and saute it in the bacon drippings. Drain off fat and add 1/3 cup sage, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, 1 tablespoon mustard, 1/2 teaspoon pepper and 1/2 teaspoon chili powder. Mix together thoroughly. Stir in 1 16-ounce can of pork and beans, 1 16-ounce can of kidney beans (drained) and 1 16-ounce can of Great Northern beans (drained). Grease a 2 1/2-quart casserole dish and pour the bean mixture into the dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Mom’s Easy Baked Beans
Put one pound of dried Great Northern beans in a saucepan and cover them with water. Bring the beans to a boil and continue boiling them for two minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and cover it. Let the beans sit for an hour, then drain off the liquid, add fresh water and repeat. After the beans have been sitting for another hour, drain the liquid into a bowl. Grease a 2 1/2-quart baking dish and put the beans in the dish along with 1 cup of the reserved liquid. Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 pound cooked bacon that has been crumbled into bits, 1 cup brown sugar, 3 tablespoons molasses and 3 small chopped onions. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add additional reserved liquid during cooking if needed.
Texas Ranger Baked Beans
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Mix together 1 28-ounce can of baked beans, 1 diced medium onion, 1 diced bell pepper and four links of links of pork sausage that have been cut into chunks in a Dutch oven. Add 2 tablespoons chili powder, 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 4 tablespoons vinegar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, a dash of salt and a dash of cayenne pepper. Mix together and cover. Bake in the oven for one hour.
