Salmon can be prepared in many ways. It can be grilled, baked, fried or even boiled. However, baking salmon is often the easiest way to cook the meat. In addition, when you cook salmon you get all of the healthy nutrients in the fish without adding the extra fat and calories you would get if you cooked it in oil. Here are a few ways to bake salmon in the oven.
Herbed Salmon
This is a very simple recipe. Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray the foil with cooking spray. Place 2 pounds of salmon on the foil and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon dried thyme, 5 dried sage leaves, a pinch of paprika and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Now fold the foil up over the salmon and bake it in the oven for 20 minutes.
Margarita Salmon
Place six 5-ounce salmon fillets into a 9×13 baking dish. In a bowl, mix together 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice, 3 tablespoons orange blossom honey, a pinch of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil. Pour this mixture over the salmon and marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and add salt and pepper to the salmon. Bake for 15 minutes.
Paper Salmon
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place a 5-ounce salmon fillet on a 12″ circle of oven parchment and cover it with 1 tablespoon frozen peas, 1 clove of crushed garlic and 1 squirt of lemon juice. Drizzle with olive oil. Fold the parchment over the salmon and crimp the edges. Place the packet on a baking sheet. Now repeat with a second salmon fillet, or as many as are needed. Bake for 15 minutes and serve by placing the packets on plates with a slit cut in the center of each.
Salmon Puffs
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper. Combine 8 ounces smoked salmon, 12 ounces crumbled feta cheese, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and 1/8 teaspoon minced garlic. Roll out a 17.5-ounce package of puff pastry until it is 12 inches square, then cut it into sixteen 3×3 squares. Spoon some of the salmon filling into the center of each square, then pull the corners up to form packets. Brush them with a beaten egg white and then bake on the baking sheets for 20 minutes.
