What you will need:
1/2 pound of lasagna noodles
1 26 ounce jar of Prego spaghetti sauce
1 cup of cheddar cheese
2 cups of mozzarella cheese
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 egg
1 lb of ground beef
1/2 cup of diced onions
6 cups water
1 pinch of salt (optional)
1 large frying pan
1 large boiler pan
1 large glass baking pan (preferably 13x9x2 inches) with lid
1 small mixing bowl
1 fork
1 12 inch sheet of aluminum foil (optional)
How to Boil the Noodles
Begin by boiling six cups of water. Add a pinch of salt (optional). Take out the lasagna noodles and place the entire contents of the package into the boiling water. Stir every few minutes so that the noodles do not stick. Boil on low heat for about 15 minutes. When noodles are done, they will be limp and pliable in the water.
How to Prepare the Ground Beef
On the stove top, use the frying pan to fry the ground beef. Cook it on low heat for about twenty-five minutes. The meat will darken and brown. Drain the excess oil from the ground beef.
Ricotta Cheese and Egg Mixture
In the mixing bowl, mix the egg and the ricotta cheese. Stir them together for about 30 seconds, or until the egg is absorbed into the cheese.
How to Layer the Ingredients
Pour a thin layer of spaghetti sauce in the bottom of the 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Carefully remove the noodles from the water and place a layer of the noodles over the top of the spaghetti sauce. Place the noodles side by side. Try to avoid overlapping and don’t leave cracks between the noodles. You should fit them together as though they are linoleum floor tiles.
Spread a thin layer of the ricotta and egg mixture over the layer of noodles. Spread the mixture evenly with a fork. Pour half of the ground beef over the top of the ricotta and egg mixture. Sprinkle a thick layer of mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the ground beef. Spread it evenly with your hands or with the fork. Pour a thin layer of the spaghetti sauce over the top of the cheese. Add another layer of the noodles. Pour the remainder of the ricotta cheese and egg mixture on top of the noodles and spread evenly. Pour the remainder of the beef on top of the ricotta and egg. Sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the beef. Next, pour all of the diced onions on top of the cheese. Top the onions with the last layer of lasagna noodles. Pour the remainder of the spaghetti sauce on top of the entire thing.
Baking Instructions
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about five minutes. Cover the baking pan with its lid. If the pan does not have a matching lid, then cover the pan with one sheet of aluminum foil. Place the lasagna into the oven. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
