Make a sauce using the following ingredients:

  • Two eight ounce cans of tomato sauce
  • One tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup of cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of dry mustard
  • One can of pineapple tidbits with juice

Pour this sauce over the ribs in the pan and return the pan to the oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 90 minutes or until tender. Be sure to baste every 30 minutes.

Orange-Glazed Spare Ribs

This is another great recipe using fruit to cook spare ribs. Cut three to four pounds of spare ribs into tow or three rib portions and place meat side down in a shallow roasting pan. Roast in a 450 degree oven for 30 minutes. Drain out any excess fat and turn the ribs over so the meat side faces upward. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and roast for 30 minutes.

Make a glaze using these ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup of orange marmalade
  • Two tablespoons of lemon juice
  • ¾ teaspoon of ground ginger

Spoon this mixture over the ribs and roast for another 30 minutes or until tender.

Barbecued Spare Ribs

Just about everyone loves barbecued spare ribs for holidays, cookouts, and for no particular reason at all.
For this recipe, cut three to four pounds of ribs into two-rib portions and place meat side down in a roasting pan. Roast in a 450 degree oven for 20 minutes. Transfer meat to another plate or container and remove any excess fat from the roasting pan.

To make the sauce, combine the following:

  • 27 ounce can of sauerkraut that has been drained of water
  • Three medium potatoes that have been peeled and sliced
  • 1/3 cup of chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon of celery seed

Place this mixture in the bottom of the roasting pan. Separate a medium onion into rings and place on top of the sauerkraut mixture. Then position the ribs on top with the meat side facing upward. Brush the meat with ½ cup of barbeque sauce, cover, and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 90 minutes or more until tender.

For broiled barbeque spare ribs, the ribs must be boiled for one hour in a pan of water first. After boiling, transfer the ribs to a broiling pan. Combine the following ingredients:

  • One cup of ketchup
  • ½ cup of molasses
  • ¼ cup of mustard
  • Two tablespoons of cider vinegar
  • Two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • Two teaspoons of chili powder
  • One diced onion
  • Dashes of salt and pepper.

Brush the ribs with the sauce mixture and broil six inches from the broiler for ten minutes. Then turn the ribs over, brush with more sauce, and broil for another ten minutes.

There are many different possibilities how to cook spare ribs in the oven. No matter which sauce, spice, or cooking method is used, ribs are delicious and well worth the 449 calories per rib!
