Find A Beekeeper
One way to get rid of bees is by finding a beekeeper in your area. Oftentimes they will take care of your problem for free because of the dwindling bee population. They will need to take the hive with them though in order to make sure that your problem is taken care of once and for all. If you do have to pay for this service, you should only be charged from $50 to $200 depending upon how big the beehive is.
Remove The Nest
Whenever you are taking care of a bee infestation yourself, you will need to start by locating their nest. It is best to do this at either dawn or dusk when they are returning to their nest. Once you have located the nest, it is time to get rid of it. If it looks vacant, then you can simply use a long object to knock it down. Make sure to crush it and throw it away. Any of the remaining bees will vacate the hive since it won’t be there for them to return to.
Use Bee Killer
In order to really get rid of bees you will need to kill them. To do this, you will need to go to your local hardware store and purchase a bee killer such as Raid. Regardless of what you use, make sure that it is a spray since you don’t want to have to go any closer to the hive than you need to.
Armed with the spray, stand approximately 10 feet away from the hive and begin spraying it. This will keep you at a safe distance. More than likely you will need to spray the hive two or three days in a row so that you are sure that you really do get rid of all of the bees.
A Few Other Ways To Get Rid Of Bees
If you want to shoe the bees away without killing them, then you can try burning wood or paper underneath the beehive at night. This will create smoke, which bees don’t like. You can also try hanging a few mothballs in a pair of socks or pantyhose in your yard near the beehive. This will act like a natural bee repellant.
Warnings To Heed When Dealing With Bees
Regardless of which method you use to get rid of your unwanted bees, here are some warnings, which you should heed:
· You should never approach a beehive unless you have the proper, defensive clothing on. This means having long pants and a long sleeve shirt on. There are also bee masks available if you want to protect your face too. They can be found at camping and sporting equipment stores.
· As soon as you find the beehive, make sure that you remove it. This is important because once you stir up their hive they will become belligerent.
· If you are allergic to bees, make sure that you leave this job to the professionals. Hire an exterminator to take care of the bees instead of attempting to do it yourself.
