A family can never have too many quick weeknight dinner recipes on hand, and pasta is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for even the pickiest palates. This recipe combines orecchiette pasta, Italian sausage, and an alfredo sauce for a creamy dish with a hint of spice.
1 pkg orecchiette pasta (or any other small pasta)
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3 Hot Italian sausages, casing removed
2 cups milk
3 tbsp flour
1/4 cup butter
salt and pepper, to taste
Fill a large pot with water, and place over high heat. Lightly salt the water, and add the pasta once it is at a roaring boil. Cook until al dente (about 6-8 minutes) and drain. Set the drained pasta aside.
While the water heats and your pasta boils, grab a large sauce pan and heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sausage meat and stir until throughly cooked and evenly browned. Place cooked meat aside in a bowl.
Using the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk until smooth. Continue to stir over medium heat until it takes on a light golden colour. Gradually stir in the milk, add salt and pepper to taste, and keep whisking until it thickens. This will take a few minutes, so be patient!
Once the sauce is thickened, add the cooked sausage and stir until evenly mixed. Add the cooked pasta and you’re done!
