White Roman Shades

When choosing window treatments, roman blinds are a classic and versatile option, and the most classic is a white roman shade.

You might think white blinds are a decorating cliche but you should think again. Because you can custom order or make these shades in any suitable weight fabric, and mount them either within the window casing or across the front of your window, you really have a lot of options, especially when you consider that you can hang them from almost any sort of decorative curtain rod, or use a more basic blind-type mounting. You can also combine these blinds with draperies, valances, and other decorative frames, such as dried vines and flowers.

These shades are available for every budget, and can even be made as a do it yourself project by someone clever with a sewing machine. Discount department stores often stock budget premade roman shades in a variety of materials. Or, if price is no object, custom roman shades can be made to your specifications with your choice of white fabric, and installed by professionals.

For a traditional room you might choose a white damask of either vertical striping or a floral motif. A more modern room might need a touch of texture, so burlap or linen or bamboo might be great choices. In an elegant setting a raw silk or silk moire might be the fabric of choice.

White roman shades can also be trimmed in a variety of ways, with ribbon, fringe or other types of trim of either the same color or in one of the other room colors. A matching or contrasting valance in a scallop or V silhouette can add further visual interest.

Using a drapery rod that complements the room style will enhance the appearance of your roman blinds. With the various types of curtain rods available, you can really have some fun in choosing what will work. Just be sure to choose the hardware carefully, to allow enough clearance for the folds when the shades are pulled up.

Because these shades are essentially one piece, they can be lined for extra insulation to help stop drafts and cold from entering in the winter, or made as room darkening shades for those whose schedules require them to sleep in daytime. Some premade roman shades have rubber backed insulation. You might choose to have an unlined summer set of roman style blinds, to allow filtered light into the room, and a lined winter set for added room warmth. They’re easily switched out, especially if they’re rod mounted.

Another choice for consideration is a double roman blind. This is actually two separate roman shades, one mounted atop the other, each with its own mechanism for raising and lowering. In this situation, the one closest to the window is usually the sheer summer shade, with the one closest to the room being the heavier weight shade. This type of window installation allows flexibility, since you can vary up the levels on both shades, depending on how much light you wish to allow into the room, or whether you need maximum privacy or insulation.

When determining what size shade you’ll need, you’ll first need to decide if it will be an inside mount or an outside mount. You might also use a level to determine if your windows are square prior to mounting your new blinds. Some older homes that have settled need shimming when mounting the shades, so that the blinds won’t hang askew.

Do be aware that some older roman blind styles use cords. The Window Covering Safety Council is now recommending cordless blinds for any room where small children will live. Mounting a cord bracket on older installations, and using it when children are visiting, will keep cords out of little hands.

How do you clean your new white roman shade? Vacuuming with a brush attachment will keep it looking fresh.

So if you’re looking for a great window treatment option, consider a white roman shade.

Having a room with limited lighting can be an annoyance for any home owner. The lighting and the ambiance of your room sets the tone for the purpose of the room. Whether it’s a home office, a living room or a kitchen, direct overhead lighting can be too abrasive, while other fixtures may not provide enough lighting. One solution to this problem is the investment in a plug in wall sconce. When you take in the advantages a plug in wall sconce light has to offer, you must decide on the style, the material and the light density of the unit you are buying.

Plug in wall sconces have a spectrum of prices to choose from. If you’re looking for a great cost effective way to spruce up your home office or bedroom, you can find units for as little as twenty dollars and as much as three hundred dollars depending on the company, the style and the materials they are made of. Finding a plug in wall sconce that is within your budget and tailored for the decor of your room should not be a problem as many of them can be found through local retailers and online stores. The best thing about these units is that you can install them yourself. Many companies recommend that you install them about sixty inches off the floor and six to eight feet apart if you’re using a couple in your room. The reason for this is that when you utilize this spacing, you are maximizing the light density of the room.

There are many different kinds of plug in wall sconce lighting. One of the types is a corner sconce. A corner sconce is an efficient way to light a dark corner of your room or give a reading chair and extra boost of light. When you use this kind of sconce you bring illumination to a corner of the room and adding an interesting ambiance.

Another version of the plug in wall sconce is the wallchiere. The wallchiere is usually a longer unit that
is more like a piece of art than the simple lamp or corner sconce. This kind of sconce is a great piece for offices, hospitals and darkened hallways that do not get natural light through the windows of your home.

If your bathroom isn’t giving you the light you need for getting dressed in the morning, invest in a bathroom wall sconce. These sconces are tailor made to give you the most lighting possible against the primarily used while tiles and walls. They are usually between one hundred dollars and three hundred dollars, but can up the value of your home by replacing an old fixture.

Plug in wall sconces aren’t just for the interior of your house though. They can also be used on the outside and give you a great alternative to traditional outdoor lighting. Many of these sconces are used for adding illumination to back decks, patios and even swimming pools.

When you’re talking about the lighting your home, you’re talking about the way that you see. If you’re not happy about an overhead light that gives you a headache or a hallway that you can barely get through without bumping into a wall, invest in a plug in wall sconce. With all of the models and styles on the market, you’re sure to find something that is going to brighten your home and add to it’s decor. Don’t limit your choices to just the interior of your house. Outside lighting can bring your deck or patio back to life for those summer cookouts. When thinking about the prices involved, chose an option that is both cost effective to your budget, but is also high quality.

Many people dream of having a huge, luxurious bathroom with plenty of space. However, the reality is that many of us are working with a limited area. One of the ways to take full advantage of the bathroom space you do have is with a tub shower combo. This type of fixture can be seen in many homes, as it takes full advantage of the available floor space, allowing the user to have both a shower and a bathtub without making the room seem overly crowded.

There are several options when it comes to installing a tub and shower combo. The most common involves using treated “wet” drywall and ceramic tiles on the walls in the shower area. It is crucial to install the correct kind of drywall, as the incorrect type may become damaged and rot if it becomes wet, leading to costly repairs. The tub is installed underneath the tiling, and the shower head is installed separately. This type of construction is fairly durable. Leaks can be repaired by re-grouting the area, and cracked tiles can be removed and carefully replaced, provided you have extras of the original tile used. In addition, using ceramic tiles gives you greater artistic liberty when it comes to designing your shower area.

The other type of hub shower combos, often called prefabricated shower stalls, comes either in a single piece, or in a few smaller sections. The wall is usually composed of fiberglass and acrylic and should not leak over its lifetime. However, if cracks do develop, it will be necessary to replace the entire piece. The single piece shower tub combination is frequently larger than a tile shower area and may be difficult to get through the door. It is crucial to measure the width of the doorways as compared to the size of the fixture before selecting one to install. For this reason, many single piece acrylic shower and tub fixtures are installed in new homes as they are being built, rather than as a new addition to older homes.

Sectional acrylic shower tub combos solve this problem. The wall maintains the look of a single piece, but is actually installed in several smaller sections. This slightly increases the risk of leaks developing over time, but also means that the fixture will be small enough to fit through the doors, and thus can be installed in older homes. These fiberglass and acrylic shower and tub areas will usually be a single color, the intensity of which may fade with use, giving you fewer design options. However, these fixtures also often come with more shelving and are less expensive than tiled showers.

Other options for personalizing your bath tub shower combo include the type of faucet, controls, and curtain or shower door. Shower heads range from a single spraying faucet to removable, hand-held spray heads and multiple shower heads with various spray options, including massage heads. The controls are typically placed directly under the shower head, but it may be more convenient to place them further back so you do not get sprayed the moment you turn the shower on. The addition of a glass shower door may also lend a more elegant touch to your shower tub area. These doors are usually sliding, with the track installed on the rim of the bathtub. Regardless of your preferences, there are many ways to personalize this area of your bathroom.

The cost of a corner tub shower combo can vary greatly depending on what type you choose and how many extra features you want included. The faucets and controls themselves can range from twenty dollars to several hundred, depending on the functions and materials used. Prefabricated shower stalls are the least expensive and can be found for just over $1000, although better quality stalls will be more expensive. Tile is generally $1-$25 per square foot, depending on the material and design of the tiles selected. Installing a tub, if the bathroom doesn’t already have one, can range from $1,500 to $5000.

Bathroom renovations can be costly, but the shower tub combo is a good way to save space and make the most of your bathroom area. There are many different options for this project to fit all budgets and tastes.

When buying a new home or moving into a rental, one of the first concerns that anybody is going to have is closet space. Finding a place to put all of our clothes, boxes, and other items that we do not always need handy can be a daunting task. So what do you do if you’ve found the perfect house, but the closet space is next to nothing? One of your options is buy a free standing closet organizer.

A free standing closet system can be perfect for anybody that is trying to expand their wardrobe, or might need a little extra space in their home. The free standing closet wardrobe is extremely adaptable to your bedroom space and can come in a lot of different designs. The freestanding closet comes in two varieties. The first type is a ready made unit. These can not be customized as they are already put together when you buy them. The other kind is a customizable freestanding closet and can be customized per your needs.

If you don’t really have the money to put into a customizable freestanding closet then you might want to go with a ready-made unit. These units are generally less expensive and can run anywhere from twenty dollars to seventy dollars at local retail stores. The problem with a ready made unit is that they tend to come in only a few colors and designs. This may clash with the design of your room if you already have furniture picked out.

If you have the means and are concerned about the look of your bedroom, you can go with a customizable unit. A customizable freestanding closet comes in a lot of designs. These units are great because you can tailor them for the corner or walls in your bedroom. They also come in a large variety of colors so you can be sure that you won’t disrupt the color schemes in your room. These units may also come with sliding doors or hinges to hide its components. You can find them made out of metals, wood and even glass. When going with customizable free standing closets, you can utilize them to work with the corners and walls of your room so you can maximize the space that you have. Many of these units can be bought and then added onto with different parts later. These units can run anywhere between one hundred dollars and a thousand dollars.

But freestanding closets aren’t just for somebody that has limited closet space. If you have a walk-in closet that hasn’t been equipped with hangers, hooks or shelving, you can buy a freestanding closet to put in yourself. These units are great for organization and come with a lot of features such as drawers, pull-out shoe racks and racks for sweaters or shirts.

So when you’re weighing your options about why kind of freestanding closet would work best for you, think about what you are going to need it for and how you want the unit to look in your room. If you’re looking for a great cost effective way to gain some space, go with a ready made unit and save yourself some money. But if you’re looking for a stylish unit that will be able to be tailored for any room you have now or in the future, invest in a customizable freestanding closet. With any unit that you buy, be sure that you’re going with a name brand company with a warranty. Now that you’ve got the knowledge, go out and buy a freestanding closet that is going to help you get organized and add a little flare to your room.

Garage door openers have become an important part of life today. Garage door opening devices offers safety and convenience for anyone. Some garage door openers have an external keypad that can help you enter you garage in the case that you do not have your remote. A garage door opener can hold a garage door shut, which can add to the overall safety of your house. In addition, all new garage door-opening devices use safety sensors to ensure that the garage door does not close on a human or animal.

The garage door opener installation steps are easy. However, installation steps vary between manufacturers. However, many steps are universal. This article aims to inform you on the steps to install a garage door opener. Keep in mind that these are general instructions. In any installation, you should follow the manufacturer’s instruction manual.

Before beginning, you should ensure that you have a power receptacle with a proper ground and GFCI. It is important to ensure that the door is functioning properly prior to installing the garage door opener. Some garage doors use springs, and should be checked for proper tension.

First, ensure that the T-rail pieces are arranged in the proper manner. Some T-rails have arrows on them. It is important to ensure that all of these arrows are pointed in the same direction. You should bolt them together securely. Next, ensure that the idler pulley is aligned and bolt it in. Next, slide the trolley into the rails, this will allow you to connect the opener unit. Next, use a screwdriver to hold the trolley in its place. After accomplishing this, you should attach the drive chain onto the provided trolley.

Next, you should open the door to find out how high the door travels over the tracks. To be safe, you should add two inches to the measurement. Mark this measurement above the door. You should then find out where the center of the door is located. Mark the center of the door with a marker. You will mount the header bracket on this point. It may be necessary to attach a few 2x4s across the studs if your location is not over a stud. After ensuring that you have a sturdy mounting location, it is safe to mount the bracket.

Now, you should close your garage door. The idler pulley should be attached to the header bracket. The assembly should now be placed on a stepladder. Next, open the door and raise the rail above the door. Then, attach the bracket to the ceiling with screws. You should make sure that the opening unit is stable by ensuring that the brackets are crossed. You may now install the controls. You should attach your opening module near the door that allows you to enter the garage. You should now install the electronic sensors. These sensors are extremely important because they can keep your child, car, or pet safe in the event of an accidental closing of the garage door. You should use staples that are insulated, and should run the wires 20” along the frame. Then, connect the proper wires to the opening unit.

The final step is to attach the bracket. You must ensure that the garage door is parallel to the rail. Then, ensure that the door is closed well. Then, attach the curved arm to the bracket.

After performing these steps, you may plug in the opening unit. Test the unit by pressing the open button. You may fine-tune your opener using the onboard controls. If everything works properly, you are finished! If you followed these steps, your installation should’ve gone great.

Remortgage services can be either a great way of saving money, or a huge waste of it. What it is in your case will depend on what you need and which service you choose. We are going to look at four of the main types of remortgage services and briefly analyze what their benefits and drawbacks are.

However, let us remind ourselves of what a remortgage actually is. A remortgage is essentially a mortgage taken on by a borrower to replace another mortgage secured on the same property. Outside the UK it is generally called refinancing. The reasons to remortgage, or refinance, are various. However, the goal of a smart remortgage is always to reap some kind of financial benefit from the change.

Remortgage Service Type 1. The Cash out Remortgage.

Remortgaging is often carried out by people that need extra cash. This service is ideal for people who have substantial equity on their homes. They can find a new lender that is willing to remortgage their house, and with the cash they receive they pay the old mortgage and use the balance for whatever they want or need. Of course this can only be done if you have equity on your home, i.e. owe less on your mortgage than the market value of your home.

Remortgage Service Type 2. Smart refinancing.

A remortgage can also be a smart way of reducing the cost of your loan. If the interest rates have dropped since you bought your home you could apply for a remortgage that provides lower interest rates. It can also be useful to refinance a mortgage if you can change from a high risk ARM (adjusted rate mortgage) to a safer fixed rate mortgage. The important thing to do in these cases is to calculate carefully the total cost of refinancing. Although you can save a lot of money, and find peace of mind with a remortgage there are a number of costs related to remortgaging that must be taken into account.

Remortgage Service Type 3. Retirement Cash

Often homeowners that reach retirement age find their monthly income has been seriously reduced since they stopped working. However they realize they are sitting (literally) on a huge amount of equity locked inside their homes. In some cases the home is nearly paid for, which provides the homeowners with plenty of equity to play with. They can remortgage their home and use the cash to maintain, or even improve their quality of life. The remortgage can be paid by the proceedings of the sale of the home, or a life insurance, once they die. This latter option is ideal for homeowners that also want to leave the family home to their children.

Remortgage Service Type 4. Consolidating

A popular type of remortgaging is the purchasing of a new mortgage to consolidate various loans into one larger loan with a single monthly payment. This a great option for people that have multiple loans with high interest, and are struggling to keep up with their payments. Loan delinquency is expensive and destroys your credit rating, which will make it harder to get a prime loan in the future, and could affect your chances of applying for a job, or even renting a house.

All of this can be avoided if you remortgage your home and use your equity to absorb your other loans into one big loan, with lower interest rates, and more affordable payments.

However, remember that remortgaging your home is a serious and a potentially hazardous financial decision. You could be putting your home at risk by refinancing it. There are also many costs associated with remortgaging that could jeopardize any potential savings. You could also be loading yourself with extra debt you do not need, or cannot afford to pay back. As always, it is important to talk to a reputable mortgage expert, or financial advisor that can help you avoid the dangers, and enjoy the benefits of remortgaging your home.

Yard Mole

Moles are small, blind rodents. Their streamlined bodies and strong, clawed forelimbs help them move quickly and efficiently through the soil. Since they spend most of their lives under the ground, they have large lungs and blood that helps them survive under the ground for long periods of time. These little pest feed mostly on earthworms and insect larvae, especially the larvae of Japanese beetles.

While you may have holes and tunnels going through your yard, it may not be a mole. The culprit could be a pocket gopher, and gophers will take other methods of removal. So, how do you tell if your yard has been invaded by a mole or a pocket gopher?

Looking at the mounds of these animals is the best way, if you can’t get a glimpse of the animal itself. The mound that a mole makes is more circular and volcano shaped, and the soil around it is clumpy. A pocket gopher’s mound, on the other hand, is flatter with dirt thrown in one general direction. The soil around a gopher hole is also finer.

Now that you’ve figured out which animal is ruining your yard, you probably want to get rid of it. There are a few method for this task – some have been proven to work, and some are controversial.

Trapping

Mole traps are put into a mole tunnel to trap and usually kill the little invader. Although this method is not exactly humane, it is the most effective method. These can be purchased at any lawn and garden stores or large department stores. Be sure and check the traps at least daily, if not more.

Different types of traps that will most likely kill a mole are harpoon traps, scissor traps, and choker loop traps. These can be place in active tunnels and around entrances. If you would rather not kill the little bugger, but remove it, a pit fall trap can also be used.

With a pit fall trap, you can catch moles and release them far away from your home, if you’re looking for a more humane method. To make a trap of this sort, dig into an active tunnel. Dig another hole on the bottom of the tunnel large enough for a large jar or coffee can to fit in. Make sure that the jar is in deep enough to be level with the ground. Cover the hole on top to keep any light out.

Other Methods

There are a number of other different methods that people claim will get rid of the moles in your yard. These methods are not proven, so some of these methods may work and some may not.

Moth Balls

One method that some people swear by is using moth balls. Poke holes in active tunnels every foot or so and push a couple moth balls in. They can also be put at tunnel entrances. The moles should vacate the tunnels within a few days.

Hair and Urine

Moles do not like the scent of humans, so the odor of hair and urine may also make them leave. Hair pulled from a brush or hair clippings from a barber shop stuffed into a mole tunnel may work. Urine can be poured into mole tunnels, but some more squeamish people may not want to use this method, and for good reason.

Garden Hose

Some people try to flush out moles with water. This method is probably very memorable for some, as it was used in the movie Caddyshack by Bill Murray when he tried to flush the gopher. Simply put the hose into a mole tunnel, and turn the hose on full blast. In theory, the mole should leave. Many times, though, if this method is used, he may return.

Do you have a beautiful table that has seen better days? Is there a great yard sale find that needs refinishing? Refinishing a table is surprisingly easy and can save you a bundle of money.

Finding a Good Candidate for Refinishing

If you have a table that you are considering refinishing, you’ll need to look at a few things to make sure that refinishing it will be worth the time and effort.

1. Is it wood?

This may seem like a silly question, but lots of inexpensive tables are made out of wood veneer with a MDF subsurface, or laminate. Pressboard laminate cannot be refinished at all, and wood veneer should only be refinished if it is in very good condition because the wood surface is only a very thin layer.

Making sure a table is wood is not difficult, but it does require a careful eye.

- Lift it. Real wood tends to be much heavier than veneer or laminate.
- Check for cracking, seperating, or peeling edges. This is a sure giveaway that it’s laminate or veneer.
- Check the joins. Staples instead of nails or screws are a laminate giveaway. Dovetail joints are a pretty good indicator that it’s wood, and high quality wood at that.
- Look at the patterns. Laminate has wood grain printed on the surface, but the grain lacks depth. If you look at the bottom of the table, do you see wood grain?

2. Is it in good condition?

Once you know the table is real wood, you’ll want to check its condition. Shallow scratches and small dings are fine. Deeper scratches and larger dings must be evaluated. If it is too deep to sand out, it will show in the finished piece. If you have a few dings in an otherwise excellent table, you can fill them with wood putty. Keep in mind that if they are too large or in a highly grained area, they make look strange.

Finishing Your Table

Once you’ve chosen your table to refinish, you’ll need to prepare it for finishing.

Tools you’ll need:

- Electric sander (strongly recommended). This will save you time and effort. A small palm sander works fine.
- Sandpaper, in rough, medium, and fine grits. You’ll need both sandpaper that fits your sander, and pieces for hand sanding
- Paste stripper (optional)
- Putty knife, disposable paintrbrush, gloves, and eyemask (if using stripper)
- Steel wool, fine
- Wood stain
- Paintbrush designed for staining
- Polyurethane

1. Use an electric sander and hand sanding with a rough-grit sandpaper to remove all traces of old paint or finish from the table. Be especially careful on curves and crevices — anything you miss in this step will greatly affect the appearance of your final finish. Stubborn areas can be cleared with steel wool, working in the direction of the grain.

Alternatively, you can use a paste stripper to remove the old finish. Stripper is corrosive and the fumes can be dangerous, but it may be necessary if you have intricate detail on the surface or legs. Make sure you wear gloves and an eye mask, and place the table in a well-venilated area if you go this route.

2. Fill in any dings or cracks with wood putty, if necessary. Follow the directions on the wood putty and let it dry completely before proceeding.

3. Go over the entire table with a medium grit sandpaper to smooth out the surfaces. When you are done with this step, all traces of any former damage should be gone.

4. Wipe down the table with soapy water. Wait 24 hours before proceeding to allow the table to completely dry.

5. Using a paintbrush, apply a thin coat of wood stain and allow it to dry. You’ll need 2-3 coats. Allow the finished table to dry for 48 hours.

6. Apply 2-3 coats of polyurethane using your paintbrush. Between each coat, lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper or steel wool to remove any visible brush marks.

Your table will be ready to use once it has completely dried and is no longer sticky to the touch. Enjoy the many years of life your new table will give you.

Dining Table

Constructing The Top Of The Table

Step 1. The first thing that you will need to do when you want to make your own dining room table is to decide what shape you want the top to be. The possibilities are truly endless. You can opt for a rectangular, square, oval or round shaped table or you can select a shape that is special and unique.

Step 2. You will need to purchase a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood that is ¾’’ thick. This can be purchases in pine, oak, cherry wood, mahogany or any other type of wood material you wish to construct your table in. Keep in mind however, that the more exotic the wood style that you select the more expensive this can be. You should also know that in order to get the best results and to make sure that your table lasts for many years to come you will need to know about any special maintenance certain wood varieties will require.

Step 3. You will need to draw your desired pattern onto the 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood. Using a saw cut out your pattern. If you have someone who can help hold the wood for you it is possible to use a table saw. If you are going to be doing this project alone it is probably going to be easier to use a handheld jigsaw style saw to cut out your wooden pattern that will be used for the top of the table.

Step 4. Use an electric sander or router to round out the side edges for your table top. This will help to produce a more desired finished look when your table is completely constructed.

Step 5. Sand the entire surface of your table top with a fine grit sandpaper. This will remove any rough edges and even out the surface for a more appealing finished table top.

Step 6. On the underside of your table you will need to determine where you want to place the legs for your table. Use a measuring tape to mark them accordingly and to make sure you can maintain stability and uniform structure for your table.

Step 7. Use a round cutting bit that is approximately 1” in diameter to cut down into the wood on the underside of your table. You will only want to cut down ½” to provide the proper support area for the legs of your table. You will need to chisel out the rounded area and make sure that it is as flush as possible. Do this for all 4 leg positioning locations that you have marked out.

Alternative Table Top Method

An alternative method for constructing your dining room table is to use a door as your table top. Solid core doors provide the best results and give you the ability to cut and shape your table top to your style. Make sure that the door has a flat surface and is not patterned.

Constructing The Leg Supports For Your Dining Room Table

Step 1. To construct the leg supports for your dining room table there are various ways to do this. You can either purchase spindles that are sold in a home improvement store and most commonly used for decorative staircases or you can opt to make them out of 2” x 2” pieces of lumber. Determine how high you want your table to stand from the floor. This is the length of the spindles you will need to purchase. If making your legs from 2” x 2” lumber you will need to purchase enough to make four legs for your table.

Step 2. When you have four spindles or 2” x 2” pieces of lumber in your desired length you will need to use your round 1” diameter cutting bit to drill around the top of the leg. Only cut down ½”. This will be the rounded area inserted into the underside of the table top. You will need to remove all of the excess wood are the circular cut you made to make sure that it will fit into your rounded out hole on the bottom side of the table top.

Step 3. Use a medium grit sandpaper to make the rounded out support as smooth as possible but do not take away from the diameter of the circular area as this will cause an improper fitting when put in place with the table top.

Step 4. Apply a generous amount of wood glue into the hole located on the bottom of your table top. Place the leg into the hole and clamp it together with a vice grip or c-clamp making sure that there is pressure placed on the area but not enough to damage the pieces.

Step 5. Allow this to dry for 24 to 48 hours before removing the vice grips or c-clamps.

Step 6. Apply your desired stain, paint or finish.

One of the most unique aspects of a flat screen television is the fact that the design allows the entire unit to be mounted flush against a wall, but few consumers take advantage simply because they believe the process to be much more complex than it actually is. It is important for individuals to realize that the flat screen televisions are designed to be viewed from directly ahead, and the optimal picture will only be achieved if it is positioned at the proper height. The easiest way to accomplish this task is to wall mount the unit, and the following guide can help a consumer determine where to begin.

Select an Appropriate Location

When looking for a place to wall mount a flat screen TV, it is necessary to consider several different factors. The mounting location is going to obviously need to be in the room that the television belongs in, and the specific place must work with the furniture arrangement. However, a consumer also must think about where the television will be plugged in for power. Various inputs from a satellite, cable, or DVD source may be required, and a person should at least consider how they are going to run the wires. Some flat screen televisions can support wireless sources, but others will require some type of external wiring. If external wiring is required, there is an additional paragraph below to provide more information.

Gather Necessary Materials / Equipment

- Stud Finder
- Level
- Hammer
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Pencil
- Tape Measure
- Extra Pair of Hands

The necessary materials must be gathered prior to attempting to wall mount a flat screen TV, or serious damage or injury can occur. Televisions are often fairly heavy and an extra person should always be on hand before any lifting or installation is attempted.

Install Wall Mount for Flat Screen TV

The wall mount must be fastened securely, and the actual process will vary somewhat based on the type of mounting surface and the weight of the television. While it is a good idea to fix a wall mount directly to a stud or support beam, there are going to be installations in which this is simply impossible. A consumer can also utilize a wall mount that is designed to be used with drywall hangers, but it is important to note that this is only acceptable for smaller and lighter units. The installation instructions that come with the mount should be followed, but all mounts will require the same prep work. Installers should ensure that the wall mount is completely level before firmly fastening the final bracket or screw. After the mount is properly installed and securely fastened, the flat screen television is relatively easy to secure provided that additional help is handy.

Complete Wiring and Hook Up

Many of the modern flat screen televisions that are available will support wireless components, but there are still some that do not. Individuals that are going to have to deal with external wires can either run them down the wall and face looking at them constantly, or they can run the wires through the drywall. Drilling two holes in the drywall to allow the wires to run behind the wall is the most acceptable method, and it certainly isn’t difficult. However, a consumer that doesn’t feel comfortable with the wire running process should probably enlist the help of a qualified professional.

A flat screen television is designed to be displayed flush on a wall, and the above guide will help an individual learn how to properly complete the installation.

Everyone wants to have healthy, shining, clean hair. That is why the hair care industry accounts for the largest volume of sales other than food items. But, keeping hair healthy can be accomplished naturally, organically, and inexpensively.

A good diet is the first step in having healthy hair. Hair grows out of the scalp, so it makes sense that what is put into the body will affect the health and strength of what grows out of it.

Commercial Shampoos

Most commercial shampoos get hair “squeaky” clean, but that is actually stripping hair of natural protective oils. Regular shampoos contain detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate, which can be extremely irritating to skin. Detergents are cheap, foamy, and effective since they strip the oil and dirt from surfaces and then rinse clean. But they are harmful to skin, hair, and the environment as they contain chemicals and preservatives.

Natural, Organic Shampoos

The products needed to make a natural, more organic shampoo can be found in the kitchen cupboard. Quality fresh ingredients such as a mixture of an egg, drizzle of honey, ½ avocado, a tsp coconut oil and cider vinegar applied to the scalp cleans, conditions, and adds shine to hair in a natural way. Clean the scalp and work down through hair. The longer the mixture is left in the hair before rinsing, the healthier the hair will be. When using natural, fresh ingredients remember that no chemical preservatives have been added, so a new batch will have to be made each time. Adding essential oils such as chamomile will leave a pleasant scent in the hair.
While this will clean hair, some people prefer a sudsy product.

Castile Soap Shampoo

Castile is a natural soap made from a vegetable base rather than animal fat-based commercial soaps. Castile can be used to clean just about everything including hair and skin. To make a gentle shampoo:

• 12 oz unscented Castile soap
• Up to 30 drops of an essential oil

Different essential oils can be used depending on hair needs. For example

• Control dandruff and itch – add ½ oz both tea tree oil and chamomile
• Extra shine – 2 ½ oz lemon grass tea and rosemary oil
• Promote hair growth – ½ oz peppermint oil if hair is dry or basil oil if hair is oily
• Golden highlights – add chamomile for fine and normal hair

Once the Castile Soap shampoo is made, it can be stored in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark place. But like the natural products shampoo, it does not contain preservatives so shelf life will be shortened.

Since Castile is soap and not a detergent, it does not strip hair of oil and can leave a bit of residue on the hair. For those who want that squeaky clean feel, a rinse of diluted cider vinegar or lemon will do the trick.

Baking Soda Shampoo

Yes, hair can be cleaned just using baking soda. Wet the hair and rub a couple teaspoons baking soda into the roots. The baking soda will not only clean the hair, but also get rid of any product build-up. If suds are preferred, add the baking soda to the shampoo to get the same results.

Clean hair, healthy hair, and shiny hair can be obtained using natural products that are also kind to the environment. Experiment with natural shampoos to see what works best for you.

Shoe Closet Organizer

If you have hundreds of shoes and they are in a pile at the bottom of your closet, or it takes more then 5 minutes to find a matching pair of shoes, you might just be in desperate need for a shoe organizer. Depending on how many shoes you have and the type of closet space you have, will determine what type or size of shoe organizer you will need.

You can purchase types of shoe closet organizers ranging from a full wall organizer with shoe shelves from top to bottom, or is space is an issue, you can purchase a hanging shoe closet organizer, or even a floor organizer.

If you have an entire closet dedicated to shoes, you can create a shoe organizing design similar to what you might see in a fancy shoe store. You can either have a shoe organizer built for you through companies such as California Closets, Closets By Design or Closet Works, or you can go the “do-it-yourself” route. If you choose to build your own shoe organizer for closets, you can get all of the materials you need at a Home Depot, Lowes or any other hardware store. Many times you’ll find packages in a hardware store that contain all of the supplies you would need to build your own closet organizer.

If you don’t have the space to devote an entire closet for your shoes, then you’ll have to go with a more simple idea. Some of these ideas are getting a floor rack which can come in different types of models ranging from layered racks for more shoes, or a single rack for not as many shoes.

Another idea, would be to build a small set of shelves at the bottom of your closet to take up the width, while not affecting hanging clothes. You can find a shoe shelf set that is already put together, or you can also go to the hardware store and an unfinished model and make it your own. A shoe shelf makes organizing shoes easy and neat.

Lacking floor space can be a cause for disorganization when it comes to shoes, but have a little excess space on your closet rod, you can find a hanging shoe organizer. They wrap around the closet rod and extend down to a few inches from the floor. These types of shoe organizers are best for people who don’t have loads of shoes. There are usually only 8-10 shelves in these organizers, and can only hold 1-2 pairs in each shelf. You can find a hanging shoe organizer at any Target, Walmart or Bed Bath and Beyond. These types of shoe organizers usually range from $5.00-$15.00 depending on the size and material used.

If you have absolutely no room in your, floor grounds or ceiling, there is still one option left. You can actually purchase a shoe organizer made for the back of your door. These shoe organizers have to hooks that are flat and lay across the top of your door, while still allowing you to open and close your door. They usually come in either plastic or canvas material and can hold anywhere for 12 to 24 pairs of shoes. The style of this type of shoe organizer is a line pockets that will fit one pair of shoes in each. Having this type of organizer is actually one of the easiest for organization purposes. You don’t have to bend down and try to find shoes in the dark, and you don’t have to shuffle your clothes over to reach a hanging shoe rack. When you open the door, all of your shoes are eye level and easy to find in just seconds. You can find door hanging shoe organizers at any Walmart, Target, Container store, Bed Bath and Beyond or any closet specialty store.

Instead of digging through your closet and wasting hours every week trying to match pairs of shoes up, find a closet organizer that will fit the style of your closet, and a style that fits your needs. You’ll never look back to the days where you didn’t have a shoe organizer. It’s a great way to get out of the house quicker and less stressed out too!

There are many types of accordion closet doors on the market. Certainly in concept, they’re all the same; the differences arise in, well, the 2 parts involved, the door, and the hardware.

For the door, the variations will be the type of door material such as wood, laminate or metals, glass or mirror even and the quality of the door material. Is it hollow or solid, what is the thickness of the materials and the like. You usually know when you grab a door, the quality of the materials with which it was made. Feel for a good weight too. When considering bi-folds and accordions, remember you don’t want it too heavy as it could have difficulty maintaining its track depending on its size and the sturdiness of the framework its being applied to. The hardware comes into play here as well but we’ll get into depth in that in a moment.

It might seem like more work than you want to do but you might want to consider upgrading your closet framework. I’d only suggest this if its obviously sub-standard or you plan on putting in say, a solid wood glass veneered set of accordion doors – that’s very heavy, and unless you want it all crashing down, you’ll want to upgrade and ‘bolster’ the support system. All that said there are many doors you may hang without going to all that trouble and where your existing doorframe will do just fine.

This brings us to the hardware. This is really what makes the difference in how and how well your accordion closet doors will work. The various types of hardware for your closet doors are:

Side–mount,
Tap-in,
Full-access,
Traditional.

The traditional mount design, you’ve probably seen it, is attached to the top of the door, has a rather compact track size and 2 or 3 wheel hangers that glide the door open and closed.

A full-access mount refers to the same idea with a hinge of sorts allowing the door to be swung completely out of the way and folding flush to the wall adding about 3 more inches to your closet access. These are not suggested in a high traffic or low care area as, having more vulnerability by design, they can be more easily damaged than most other hardware mounts. In a smaller area though, they might be just the right answer.

Tap-in is the kind we’ve all seen in contractor grade settings. They’re the very ‘affordable’ version of the traditional mount. The difference is no wheels but instead, a silicone sealed rubber ‘top’ that spins in the track.

The side mounted accordion closet doors is my favorite. It’s the most discreet look actually making the door appear to slide in the air. It does this by virtue of its extra stability. It attaches to the door with an el bracket. The el offers two points of contact and much greater stability and endurance. This design is sensible anywhere but great for the kids room and or guest closet. The side-mount is an easy upgrade and well placed extra dollar. This small modification to the traditional accordion door hardware design can save you hours and days in the years to come in home repair and headache. And if you manage rental properties, you can’t live without it. Just buy in bulk and keep in inventor, as your old hardware breaks, replace it with these sets.

This link offers great visuals and really good zooms of all the above mentioned styles of available hardware. The zooms are high quality and can load a bit slowly but they’re worth it for understanding the differences and the quality variations out there.

Next time your looking around at closet doors, you’ll notice that even from a distance you can tell side-mounted accordion doors from the rest. They just hang better. But, whatever you choose, go for quality and your doors will stand the test of time.

You might have noticed in your neighborhood the many different shades of green from neighbor to neighbor. We are not talking about wealth here; we are talking about green lawns. Sometimes, it is puzzling why in two homes which are next to each other, and apparently may have the same type of soil, one of them has a lush emerald green lawn, while the other, not so green. While that may be puzzling, there is a perfect explanation for it. Green lawns take some effort, dedication, and the right products.

A lawn must be mowed properly, feed the right nutrients, and it must be free from weeds to keep it healthy looking. Weeds are thieves who rob the lawn of its nutrients, and some types of weeds will choke your lawn preventing healthy growth. That is why weed control is one of the most important steps in keeping a healthy green lawn.

The type of soil you have will affect the growth, and the type of grass you choose will make a difference. There are many different types of grass, and some are suitable for cooler climates, others for warmer climates. When choosing a grass type make sure that you choose the one best for your climate conditions. If you have many shady areas and high traffic areas, you will have to use a combination of grasses to make the best of a green lawn. Choosing a grass that will do well in shady areas and a grass that will be tough enough for some heavy traffic will be necessary.

You will also need to select the right type of grass for the amount of rain that your particular area gets. You can also install an irrigation system, as watering a lawn properly is an important factor in keeping it green and healthy. You can install the system yourself or ask a professional to do it for you. If your budget is limited, then you can do some irrigating yourself with a hose or attaching a hose to some portable irrigating gadgets that you can find at the home improvement center.

Another important task to keep your lawn green is to aerate your lawn. This is necessary so the lawn breathes better and gets the necessary nutrients and air needed for its healthy development. Aerating the lawn is easy, and it can be fun too. You can buy aerating shoes, which have spikes at the sole and you will walk around the lawn wearing these shoes. The spikes will make holes in the ground and this will help separating and aerating the lawn. You can also buy a type of rolling tool for this job. It is advisable to do this process during the spring or during the fall. If you do it in the spring, wait after the ground has thawed. The fall is preferable.

Another important step is to fertilize your lawn. In addition, it is important to control the weed growth, as weeds will always be present, but you can control this part so they do not grow in your lawn. Now, this step is much easier since there are fertilizers in the market that also include a weed control agent. You can do this step together to save some time and money. You can find these types of products at the plant nursery or home improvement center. Slow release fertilizers are better because they release the nutrients over time, as opposed to all at once. Your lawn will receive the benefits periodically. Make sure to buy a product suitable for your type of grass. Follow the instructions in the package as many products vary in application methods.

The last part in keeping a green lawn is the mowing. You have to mow it to keep it growing healthy. It is best a mulching mower, as it will cut the grass, but also will provide mulch with the same grass cuttings. This will make your grass stronger. You should mulch your lawn when it is about three inches tall, never below that. You will have to mow the lawn more often, but the result will be a green and lush lawn.

Goose is a savory, dark meat that many cooks find difficult to cook; however, by using proper and careful preparation, goose can be a rich and intensely flavorful treat.

PREPERATION

1. Before beginning, preheat the oven to 400° F.

2. First make sure the goose is completely defrosted, unless it is a fresh bird. Remove the neck, giblets, and fat deposits from the body cavity. The giblets can be refrigerated to be used for stock or gravy. The fatty deposits can be saved for rendering, which will yield a delicious cooking fat for other recipes.

2. Rinse the bird inside and out and thoroughly pat dry with paper towel.

3. Using a fork, prick the skin of the goose all over, including top and bottom. Be careful to pierce only the skin and not the meat. This will allow excess fat to drain during cooking, and aid in crisping the skin.

4. Next stuff the goose. An easy and flavorful option is to use 2-3 celery stalks (cut in 2 inch lengths) and a peeled and quartered onion. Another option is to stuff the bird with plain bread. A more familiar technique is to use stuffing. There are endless varieties of stuffing and flavorings, including apple, cabbage, prune, or traditional sage and onion. Prepare the stuffing beforehand using a favorite recipe.

5. Remove the wings or cover with aluminum foil to prevent burning. Fold the neck skin under and secure to the bird with a skewer. Tie the legs together with kitchen twine.

6. Rub the skin all over with salt and pepper to taste.

ROASTING

Part 1

7. Place the bird, breast up, on a rack in a large roasting pan. Do not use a non-stick pan. Make sure the roasting pan is deep enough to collect all the fat that will accumulate during roasting.

8. Insert a meat thermometer deep into the thigh muscle. Make sure the thermometer is not touching bone.

9. Roast the bird at 400° F for about 45 minutes. This will give the bird a nice golden color, but make sure not to burn the goose. During roasting, spoon off any excess fat that accumulates at the bottom of the pan.

ROASTING

Part 2

10. After browning the goose for 45 minutes, remove the pan from the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 325° F.

11. Drain the fat from the pan and use paper towels to pat off any excess fat from the bird.

12. Cover the roasting pan and return to the 325° F oven. Cook the bird an average of 20 minutes per pound (for example, a 10 pound bird x 20 minutes per pound = 200 minutes, or about 3 hours and 20 minutes).

13. Every 20-30 minutes during roasting, skim the fat in the pan, and baste the goose with the pan juices. It is best to use a metal bulb baster because the hot, fatty juices may melt a plastic baster.

14. The goose is done when the meat thermometer reads 175°-185° F. Pierce the bird to ensure the juices are clear; the drumsticks should separate easily from the goose. If the bird is stuffed, make sure the stuffing has reached an internal temperature of at least 165° F.

15. When the bird is done, remove from the oven and transfer to a serving platter. Remove the kitchen twine from the legs and the foil on the wings. Cover the entire goose with foil and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
